Calling our congressional leaders is the most effective way to influence public policy, but it can be intimidating to pick up the phone and make the call.
When you make the call you will likely get a receptionist or a message machine. Ask to speak to the aide that is handling the bill or issue that you are concerned about. Aides can be busy and sometimes you will just need to leave a message with the receptionist. Be concise and let them know you are part of their constituency.
An example of what you might say could be the following: "Hello, my name is Cam Lemons. I'm a constituent from California, zip code 93514. I don't need a response. I'm concerned about the Equality Act and its implications for mixing biological males and females in sports, restrooms, homeless shelters and prisons. I strongly encourage the senator (or rep) to vote against the bill. Thank you for your time.
